• The Monona Historical Museum - There are two woodcarving collections housed within the museum. The first is the collection of Gust Pufahl. Mr. Pufahl started carving as a boy and in 1932 was awarded the Popular Mechanics Magazine Master Carver Award. All of his pieces were carved from single pieces of wood. No parts were made individually and fastened or glued together.
In 1992, a new addition was added to the museum to house the woodcarving display created by Elmer Marting, Sr. Mr. Marting also carved his pieces from single pieces of wood. His work includes an amazing collection of more than 300 chains made from 83 different woods. Mr. Marting's collection of wooden chains is the largest single collection of hand-carved wooden chains in the world.
